2019 is the year of the earth tones!

Benjamin Moore released its 2019 color of the year last October. “Metropolitan AF-690” is a gray color with cool undertones that is sure to make your home feel soothing, while finding a common ground between warmth and sophistication.

Pair that with Behr’s Color of the Year, “Blueprint S470-5”, and you’ve created an unstoppable color duo! Behr’s blue color is a mid-tone blue that helps people imagine all the things their home and spaces could be. Erika Woelfel, Behr’s vice president of color and creative services, called the shade an “instant classi”, adding that, “Much like the sketches builders rely on to bring an architectural design to life, Blueprint S740-5 lays a foundation for consumers to make their unique vision a reality.”

Of course, Blueprint isn’t the only new color Behr is releasing – accompanying Blueprint are four different complementary color palettes, Color Being (a range of blue, teal, and gray), Inspired Curation (jewel tones like mauve, dark greens, and gold), Down to Earth (warm earth tones), and Soft Focus (pastels in blue, lilac, and peach).

Sherwin Williams didn’t miss out on its Color of the Year this year! A warm terracotta color with ancient, elemental roots, “Cavern Clay SW 7701”. Cavern Clay is a nod to mid-century modern style, but with the soul of the American Southwest, which together creates a desert modern aesthetic.

This warm, earthy hue is both casual and refined. It can be the backdrop of a playful, welcoming dining room or kitchen when paired with bright tiles, warm stone and sculptural greenery. Complementary materials include leather, simple woodgrains and indigenous cacti in contemporary, sleek gardening planters.

We’ve been watching the home design trends in Denver slowly move to less “traditional” styles, and are excited to see these colors come into play. As Colorado homeowners start to embrace open-concept livings rooms, and outdoor living space, these colors will lend themselves beautiful to tying in any design aspects you’re looking to incorporate this year!
