Maybe you just bought a house or maybe you’re looking to remodel and freshen up your space. One of the important things you’ll be choosing is your flooring. Do you have pets? What about children? You’ll want to go with something that fits with your lifestyle and needs. But the question everyone’s asking is, is carpet out of style or is it making a comeback?

In 2019, carpet seems to be coming back in style. It’s soft, works with every budget, and can help with soundproofing. Neutral colors in carpet can still be a staple in every home. When you wake up in the morning, stepping on the cold hardwood floor can seem like the worst idea ever. Why not replace it with carpet?

When choosing carpet there’s a lot of things to consider. Do you want a neutral color or do you want to find a cool pattern? There’s different textures of carpet and different kinds as well. Putting research into what’s best for your home is important.

Nylon carpet is one of the most durable. It’s great for high performance areas of your house. It’s a strong fiber, which is great for an active household. Polypropylene is great if you’re worried about the color of your carpet. It won’t fade because the color is dyed. It’ll be resistant to the sun and great for stain resistance. Polyester carpet is also great for stain resistance! It’s very soft and can be great for a tight budget.

The texture you want is another important thing to decide on. Cut pile carpet is yarn that is cut at the ends. It’s perfect for rooms you’re going to spend a lot of time in, like a living room or a bedroom. Cut pile has five different variations you can choose from; velvet, cable, frieze, shag, and saxony. The differences in these is the twist you’ll see in the yarn. Frieze carpet is tightly twisted and looks ‘knobby’, but this also makes it durable. On the other hand, saxony carpet is woven densely and has a very soft feel to it. Loop carpeting is yarns that are looped and uncut in the carpet. They’re strong and great for high traffic areas. A typical type of loop carpeting is berber, you’ll be able to tell the difference visually between this and cut piles. Cut loop carpeting combines the two cut fibers and looped fibers together to create different patterns in the carpet. This is more for visual appearance.

Finally, you’ll want to choose between a neutral color or go for something bold. On one hand, neutral is a safe option and you can match the carpet to anything in your house. If you want colorful furniture, maybe a nice gray color will be a good option. If you have children or pets running around, maybe a darker color to hide some of the wear and tear. Choosing a bold carpet for your home can be rewarding. It can really make a room pop if you want to add more neutral tones in your home with your furniture. It doesn’t even have to be one solid bold color either, I’ve seen ombre carpet!

If you have a room that seems it needs a little bit of a fix, try changing the carpet. Maybe the not so obvious choice is the best one to make when giving your room a new breath of fresh air.
