Just a few miles south of downtown Denver, CO is a quaint historic town known as Littleton. The tree-lined streets in downtown are home to antique shops, quaint eateries, and independently owned shops and galleries. A walk through this cozy town is like taking a step back in time.

As great as Littleton is, its education system is equally impressive. Littleton Public School district serves several communities within the southern Denver metropolitan area, and is ranked as the number one school district in all of Denver. In fact, Littleton School District is ranked fifth in all of Colorado for ‘best district’ and ‘best teachers’.


Littleton Elementary Schools

If you live locally with littles, or if you’re considering moving to Denver with kids… you’re probably interested in what the elementary education looks like here. Littleton Public Schools has 13 elementary schools to choose from. You’ll want to look into Littleton Academy. It’s ranked as the best in the LPS district, and 20th in the entire state! As a charter school, it’s been able to set higher standards for its students and staff. Serving over 460 students from kindergarten to eighth grade, it has a student-teacher ratio of 14 to 1.

Littleton Middle Schools

There are four traditional middle schools in the Littleton district, serving grades 6-8. John Wesley has the highest enrollment rates, followed by Goddard and Euclid, then Isaac Newton. This district offers unique options to middle school students, with features such as CORE groups where students are broken down by grade level into smaller communities, and unique elective options.

Littleton High School

Those living in the Littleton area are blessed to be near Littleton High School, named as one of eight ‘world class schools’ in the United States and Canada, selected by the NASSP (National Association of Secondary School Principals). These 8 schools were selected based on a combination of criteria: clear vision and high standards, collaborative structure, and culture of lifelong learners. Their athletics team is just as spectacular with their men’s track team placing second overall in the 5A state championship. They offer a plethora of other sports including: baseball, men's and women's basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, men's and women's golf, gymnastics, men's and women's lacrosse, poms, men's and women's soccer, softball, swimming, men's and women's tennis, track and field, wrestling, and volleyball.


Alternative Education Options


Looking for alternative education options in the Denver area?

Options Middle School serves students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, who are enrolled in Littleton Public Schools. OMS provides a variety of methods and activities in order to meet the needs of unique learners. The curriculum is skill-based in order to ensure the success of OMS’s students. Also, it offers smaller class sizes, which allow the students to work together in a more collaborative nature.

As with the rest of Colorado, those that wish to homeschool children in Littleton must notify the district at least 14 days prior to the start of homeschooling, and must comply with certain academic subjects, assessments, record keeping and attendance requirements.

The Hearts at Home Homeschool Support Group provides homeschool support to the Highlands Ranch, Littleton and surrounding areas. It is a Christian based program that has been operating since 1997. Membership is open and they provide various services and opportunities to homeschooled children and their families in the local area.
