Cherry Creek, Colorado is located about 15 minutes away from Denver. It has a mixture of both dense urban development and tree lined residential streets. It has many newer residencies mixed in with some of Denver’s oldest homes. The neighborhood takes its name from the nearby Cherry Creek that runs along the south side of it.

The Cherry Creek School District 5 is also known as Cherry Creek Public Schools. It consists of elementary, middle, and high schools. The district headquarters are in Greenwood Village. The district serves Greenwood Village, Cherry Hills Village, most of Centennial, Foxfield, Glendale, portions of Aurora, Englewood, and other areas of suburban Denver.

The district serves more than 55,000 children and more than 300,000 residents in 108 square miles that spread across eight municipalities. There are 43 elementary schools, 11 middle schools, and 7 high schools. Additionally, there is also one magnet school and two charter schools.

Cherry Creek is a diverse district where inclusive excellence and college and career preparedness and success are priorities. The graduation rate for the Class of 2018 is 89%. Since 1955, more than 100,000 students have graduated from Cherry Creek schools and have earned hundreds of millions of dollars in scholarships. 140 Languages are spoken by students in this district. More than 79% of faculty members have advanced degrees and teachers have an average of 10 years of experience. 3,685 licensed teachers work in the district. Cherry Creek Schools has the third-highest number of National Board Certified teachers in Colorado. 18 students scored a perfect score on the 2018 ACT or SAT.

There are also private school options for people living in Cherry Creek as well. Kent Denver school serves students from the 7th to the 12th grades. The student to teacher ratio is 8:1 with a class average of 12 students. Originally founded in 1922 as an all girls school, Kent Denver has now been open to both girls and boys since 1974. Their curriculum offers more than 80 classes taught by exceptional faculty: 69% of their teachers have advanced degrees and several have PhD’s in their chosen discipline. Kent Denver are dedicated to providing an education exemplified by “excellence in scholarship and character.

St. Mary’s Academy is also another private school option. Founded by the Sisters of Loretto in 1864, St. Mary’s operates as an independent Catholic school that offers classes from pre-kindergarten through high school. Lower grades are all coeducational, but only girls can attend the high school. Classes are smaller and offer more personalized education for students. As a school dedicated to education young people to be powerful agents of change, they embrace the Constitutions of the Sisters of Loretto that encourage them to “educate others as well as ourselves to truth, beauty and the ways of peace, in the spirit of Jesus.”


According to schooldigger.com, Challenge School is rated 6th out of over 900 Colorado public school districts. Cherry Hills Village Elementary School was rated 15th, while Cottonwood Creek Elementary School was rated 25th. Nine schools place in the top 100 category.
